I made a post on Threads yesterday encouraging people to learn the difference between what should be said online and what should be kept in your head given the times we are in.
Why? ‘Cause they listening. And I gave a real-time example of that.
And people read that and replied with, "I WON'T BE SILENCED! NOW IS THE TIME TO RESIST."
Um. Cool. Nobody is asking you to be silent or to not resist.
Here’s the post to catch y’all up (it’s a hyperlink also):
The replies were annoying af.
I really just wanted to say, "Most of you in the comments have never had to resist anything in your life, and it shows."
Now, let’s break down the most common replies for educational purposes.
"bUT thEy'VE BeeN LiSTenING fOr yEArs"
Of course they have. I'm a Black woman who studies history. COINTELPRO, anybody? That started 50+ years ago. And we lost a lot of revolutionaries behind it.
And when I started talking about dossiers and people showing up at your house, this one person was like, "You watch too much TV."
No, ma’am… I read.
I study history.
I also may or may not have dated an “intelligent person” (please don’t make me spell that out for you).
But the bigger picture is that I’ve watched two men create laws to insulate themselves from prosecution and then, in less than a month, upend just about every consumer safeguard we have. They got Zuckie and his homies to bend the knee—including TikTok. They also deputized Proud Boys when they opened (in their language) a "spot an illegal" tip line.
But this is bigger than just undocumented immigrants.
"wHaT ThEY gOnNa dO ArreST aLL oF uS? tHeY dOn’T HAve thE pERsoNNEL"
I replied with, "They don’t need the personnel."
I’ll extend that by reminding you of the aforementioned deputization and the recently pardoned J6urrrs and how they mobilized. I also invite you to learn more about what happened on Philadelphia's Osage Avenue. Very little personnel required.
So if you’re not saying don’t speak up, Kimberly, what are you saying?
Well, here are three things worth considering:
Remember that your smart devices can hear.
Be mindful of the WAYS in which you vent. While you might wish certain things to happen to certain people, you probably shouldn’t say that online or speak it near your devices.
Let me introduce you to Henry “Box” Brown. Henry escaped enslavement by mailing himself to freedom in a box. Once he was free, he went around town talking about how he did it…in a public one-man show…while people were still enslaved. How many people you think were able to mail themselves to freedom after that? Notta one.
None of the above are “don’t speak up and don’t resist.”
So with that in mind, I’m sure you can come up with your own list of “head thoughts” as we navigate this dick-tator-ship (which now makes me want to forever call it a potato-shaped ship of micro penises).
The next four years are gonna suck.
Resist. And when possible, be safe.
